After completing my A Levels, I attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in 2001 before joining the British Army as a young officer on a Gap Year Commission. This enabled me to start to develop the foundations of leadership and teamwork, along with problem solving and the ability to maintain calm under pressure.
I always had a keen interest in science and the challenging world of investigation work, so following the Gap Year Commission, I attended the University of Lincoln to study Forensic Science. The course delved into the intricate realms of crime scene investigation, enabling me to progress my critical thinking and analysis, time management and attention to detail.
Following graduation I joined the Metropolitan Police Service. First entering the high-pressured environment of emergency response team policing. This tested and developed my communication and decision-making skills. I knew from an early stage I wanted to challenge myself further and progressed my career next by becoming a Detective working within a variety of departments including, Domestic Violence, Burglary/Robbery and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). During this time, I managed complex casefiles which drove my passion for results.
I had further appointments within the high-risk environment of Gangs engagement team where I regularly collaborated with partner agencies to roll out community initiatives and projects, and within a Homicide and Major crime team, where I strived to overcome the challenges of austerity in order to maintain professional and dedicated to my work.
I progressed further following promotion into the rank of Detective Sergeant where I supervised and mentored officers. This role would often entail high levels of risk, time and cost management, with a constant need to adapt as incident would evolve.
I have found that the skills and experience I gained during my time within policing crosses over into the essential diverse skill set of a project manager.
On leaving the police I completed the Foundation and Practitioner PRINCE2 qualifications in order to further develop my understanding of project management methodology.
I am passionate about using a dynamic approach to drive change and see a project from beginning to successful closure.
